The Halewood International Group has three major operations outside the UK – Romania, South Africa and China.
Halewood International’s relationship with Romania goes back to the Communist period. Over the
years our relationship with the Romanians has evolved from being a customer, to a joint venture
partner along with Pernod Ricard and finally a major producer in our own right.
Oasis Breweries – now Halewood International South Africa – was acquired in 1999. In the last few years, the African business has achieved significant growth via strategic investment and a professional and dedicated management team.
The third country in which we have ownership interests, via a joint venture, is in China.
In addition, Halewood International has partnerships with distributors and producers ensuring our
brands are visible in over 50 countries worldwide.
SOUTH AFRICA (Click to view)
Our success in South Africa following inception in 1999 has been driven by the growth of the Red Square brand and has led to Halewood International being one of the fastest growing drinks companies in the country. The company is a significant player in the South African Liquor industry and the leading manufacturer and marketer of RTD brands. Red Square has won the coveted Sunday Times top brand award in the Spirit Cooler category for 5 years in succession.
Since the initial purchase, we have consistently invested to modernise the facility, most recently with the construction of a sophisticated new bottling facility and warehouse, which has helped us to become a major name in the South African spirit cooler market. We have extended our reach through a national distribution infrastructure across South Africa to support this growth and allow us to compete across the country. Our operation here is one of the region’s fastest-growing drinks producers, and will further enable growth into the African continent. It manufactures and sells a wide range of Halewood International brands, as well as being a contract producer and distributor for international brand owners.

Although an importer of Romanian Wines prior to the Romanian revolution, Halewood International capitalised on the opportunities offered due to greater freedoms, by being involved firstly in a joint venture with Romanian wine companies (the first between a Western and Romanian business), and more recently by the purchase of vineyards and wineries from Transylvania to the Black Sea. Subsequent investment has built an infrastructure that allows us to be one of the largest import agency companies in Romania. All-in-all Halewood Romania controls in excess of 400 hectares of vineyards.

Halewood International established a joint venture with the Beijing Shunxing Wine Company in 2001 and is in now working with Beijing Xin Da Hong Mao (BXDHM). This platform has enabled the company to start selling Halewood International RTD branded products for the Chinese market.
Following 12 years of investment the Halewood Joint venture has now purchased and commissioned a carbonated filling line with associated bulk liquid processing from within China for the production of Red Square RTD range, which represents a major step in the development of products for the Chinese market. The facility allows the business to control production, quality and provides the capability to introduce new products to the market. Further investment of plant and machinery is planned over the next few years to capitalise on opportunities in the mainland Chinese market.
